”’সুরেলা ঘণ্টাবিদ্যা”’ বলতে সুরেলা ঘণ্টা বিষয়ে প্রণালীবদ্ধ বৈজ্ঞানিক অধ্যয়নকে বোঝায়। এতে সুরেলা ঘণ্টার নকশা, [[ঘণ্টানির্মাণ|নির্মাণ]] বা ঢালাই, সুরে বাঁধা, ঝোলানো, বাদন, এগুলি সহযোগে সঙ্গীত পরিবেশন, এগুলিতে পরিবেশিত সঙ্গীতের সংগ্রহ, এগুলি সংক্রান্ত বিভিন্ন কাজের (বিশেষ করে ঘণ্টাবাদনের) ইতিহাস-ঐতিহ্য, এগুলি নিয়ে গঠিত বাদ্যযন্ত্র (যেমন সুরেলা ঘণ্টাস্তবক বা সুরেলা ঘণ্টাগুচ্ছ, ইত্যাদি), এগুলির প্রতীক ও অন্যান্য অনুষঙ্গ অধ্যয়ন করা হয়।<ref>{{Citation |title=The Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments |publisher=Oxford University Press |year=2014 |page=453 |editor=Laurence Libin |edition=3rd}}</ref><ref>From Glossary of the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers 2016; “Campanology – Study of the history, art and science of making and ringing bells.</ref> সুরেলা ঘণ্টাবিদ্যাকে ইংরেজিতে “ক্যাম্পানোলজি” (Campanology)। কাম্পানা একটি লাতিন শব্দ যার অর্থ ঘণ্টা।
সাধারণত সুরে বাঁধা একাধিক ঘণ্টার একটি সংগ্রহকে একত্রিত করে সেগুলিকে সমষ্টিগতভাবে একটিমাত্র বাদ্যযন্ত্র হিসেবে গণ্য করা হয়। এরকম বাদ্যযন্ত্রের মধ্যে আছে [[সুরেলা ঘণ্টাস্তবক]] (ক্যারিলন), রুশ “জভোন”, ইংরেজ “ঘণ্টাচক্র” (রিং অভ বেলস), ইত্যাদি। এগুলির প্রতিটির নিজস্ব চর্চা, রেওয়াজ ও সমস্যা আছে। সুরেলা ঘণ্টাবিদ্যাতে এইসব বাদ্যযন্ত্রের উৎকর্ষসাধন করার লক্ষ্যে অধ্যয়ন করা হয়।
সুরেলা ঘণ্টাবিদ্যা বলতে মূলত আপেক্ষিকভাবে বড় আকারের ঘণ্টার অধ্যয়নকেই বোঝায়, যেগুলি প্রায়শই কোনও ঘণ্টাঘরে বা ঘণ্টাবুরূজে ঝোলানো থাকে। ছোট ছোট ঘণ্টার সমষ্টির গবেষণা (যেমন চোঙাকৃতি ঘণ্টাসমষ্টি তথা গ্লকেনষ্পিল, কিংবা ইন্দোনেশীয় গামেল্যান ঐকবাদন) এর আওতায় পড়ে না।
